The Penrose Neighborhood Association will host representatives from the Virginia Department of Transportation, who will present an overview of the bridge project at Washington Boulevard and Columbia Pike, on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2217 Columbia Pike.
Under the redevelopment plan for the 70-year-old bridge, clearance under the bridge will be increased, and Columbia Pike will have 11-foot travel lanes, bicycle lanes, a left-turn lane and a raised median. Several ramps also will be reconfigured.
Construction is slated to begin in 2012 and be completed in 2015.
